The Woodland House - Anaway Place Cabin Getaway in Wisconsin
Our stay at this magical ‘hygge’ style cabin was a perfect vacay before the craziness of holiday travel. Owners Susan and Norbert Calnin started the Candlewood Cabins on eighty acres of land back in 1981. They rebranded to ‘Anyway Place’ this past June of 2021. The Woodland House is one of the newest cabins, the sixth out of their seven gorgeous properties that are some of the hardest to get reservations in Wisconsin - booked out two years in advance! This two-story cabin is stunningly designed and decorated. We lucked out snagging a last-minute cancellation! (check the website from time to time for cancellations)
We pulled up on the Anaway Place property shortly before sunset and loved having time to explore the beautiful Woodland House before the sun went down. You instantly feel at home here. The second-floor bedroom is so relaxing, and I enjoyed reading the guest book by the woodfire stove. It was so fun to read about some of the proposals and special celebrations that have taken place here over the past two years. The floor-to-ceiling windows were gorgeous and made me feel like I was waking up in the treetops during sunrise.
The serial wooden staircase that connects the bedroom to the main floor is such a fun feature in this cabin! The kitchen, dining room, and bathroom are all on the main floor with warm Scandinavian style and wooden accents. The bathroom features a huge walk-in rain shower.
Additional things to note if you are lucky enough to snag a reservation here:
If the woodstove fireplace isn’t your thing there is also central air and heat.
The cabin has a full kitchen but you can also use the charcoal grill outside, or if the weather is nice you can roast some marshmallows on the outdoor fire pit. (Just be sure to bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid. Firewood is available on the property for a small fee)
We brought our own groceries to make meals at the cabin, but there are a few places in Richland Center about ten minutes away that you can drive to.
There are nice walking trails right off the Woodland House driveway you can explore.
There is wi-fi available, as service is very limited or non-existent unless you have Verizon. But honestly, it was a great two days being disconnected and email free!
So grateful for our last minute opportunity to stay at the Woodland Cabin at Anaway Place. It was a much needed relaxing getaway, and the being disconnected from the rest of world is always a sign of a great trip. :)
Another spot I highly recommend in Wisconsin is the Off-Grid Inn, which was just named the “Most Wish-Listed in Wisconsin” by Airbnb. The giant windows and wood throughout the home was dreamy, and at night it lights up with color changed lights!
