Airstream Glamping at Moose Creek Ranch

During a month-long road trip through Rocky Mountain states in November, my sister Colleen and I stayed at a fabulous little ranch in southwest Idaho by the Targhee National Forest. We absolutely LOVED our three-night stay at Moose Creek Ranch in this fabulous little airstream by the creek. While the property has multiple cabins, glamping tents, and RV spots, the airstream is the farthest away from the main lodge, with great views of the nature surrounding it. The patio area outside has comfy Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, and lights that come on at sunset. It was fun to have the feeling of camping while having the comforts of home with electricity, water, and a bathroom. Plus the Idaho side of the Tetons is quieter, and you get to avoid all of the tourists that flock to Jackson Hole.

The weather was absolutely perfect for days and nights spent sitting fireside making s’mores and drinking wine. We basically lived in oversized flannels and jackets, with the sound of the water rushing over the rocks in the creek next to us. It was great to grill out for meals, and there is both a nice grill and a Blackstone griddle right by the picnic table that is for the sole use of the Airstream occupants. I had also packed a Coleman propane stove in my Jeep for this road trip and was itching to use it, so we busted it out for breakfast. We had bought some breakfast sausage from the Victor Valley Market in town, and it was delicious! So much flavor and I still dream of this sausage. For such a cute little grocery, they had quite the large meat counter.

One thing we never had to worry about while glamping, was whether we had enough firewood or where to get it. The staff at Moose Creek Ranch is fabulous and check in periodically to keep the firewood stocked for you day and night. You can get a s’mores kit from the office in the main lodge, and they have plenty of marshmallow sticks for you to use.

This was my first time experiencing a Solo Stove, and wow we were obsessed. The Solo burns amazing so that you don’t have to worry about smoke blowing in your face. This fire pit is definitely a reason we spent many hours a day and night by the fire. It was so nice not having super smokey-smelling hair or dried-out contacts from the smoke.

THE AIRSTREAM

The Flying Cloud 25RB Twin Bed Airstream was the perfect size for the two of us, the twin beds were SO comfy. We honestly thought they were some of the comfiest beds we had on our entire road trip, and hearing the water from the creek next to us put us soundly to sleep at the end of the day. We enjoyed having a kitchen with an oven, stove, fridge, microwave, as well as a bathroom and shower. Although we never cooked indoors because it was so nice out and we loved using the nice grills.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT THE RANCH:

  • You can also cook or hang out at the main lodge, meet others around the fireplace, or play pool, ping pong, or other games. There is also a coffee/ hot chocolate bar in the lodge.

  • There are plenty of grassy spaces for bocce ball or other games (grab some from the main office) or community firepits.

  • With the exception of winter, there are horses on the property. There is also a big beautiful barn for events like weddings.

  • The staff is wonderful. You’ll leave missing them just as much as you’ll miss your time on the ranch.

  • There is a laundry room on-site that takes quarters. This came in clutch during this leg of our road trip.

  • Connected to the laundry is a really nice and clean bathhouse with towels, showers, bathrooms, and a large mirrored vanity area to blow dry your hair and get ready in. These are mostly used by tent glampers and RVers, but available to everyone.

  • Wi-Fi is available pretty much anywhere on the property.

  • Bear spray is available for purchase from the office in the lodge should you want some.

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK

  • Grab groceries from the Victor Valley Market - great meat counter and a good selection of beers, seltzers, and wine for how cute and little this market is. You can find all the necessities you’ll need here.

  • West Side Yard - great food and drinks, with a fun outdoor space drink that sometimes has live music. We went on a weeknight that was chilly, but they were happy to light up the firepit for us even though we were the only ones that wanted to be outside to drink and watch the sunset. Order the fried avocado appetizer - it’s divine.

  • Big Hole BBQ - supposedly Kanye West’s favorite BBQ. We didn’t get a chance to eat here but heard great things from the locals about it.

  • Victor Emporium - soda fountain, ice cream shop, and an eclectic little shop.

  • Moonshine - if you don’t find what you need at the Market, you can grab your liquor, beer, and wine here.

  • Butter - cute and yummy spot for breakfast or brunch

  • Knotty Pines - good vibes supper club with good food, an indoor and an outdoor stage for live music.

  • Wildlife Brewing - brewery with good pizzas. Grab one to go and eat it outside on a picnic table at the ranch.

  • Highpoint Cider - new fun spot in town

  • Tiny Town Culinary - if you need a cake for a birthday or celebration, this is the spot :) You can also take a cooking class.

  • Grand Teton Brewery - brewery not far from the ranch, they don’t serve food but often have food trucks

  • Big Hole Bagel - delicious New York style bagels. We devoured their delicious breakfast bagel sandwiches and grabbed some bagels to go to eat at the ranch. They also have sandwiches and breakfast burritos.

WHAT TO SEE & DO

There are so many adventures to be had in the “Teton Valley”, or rather the quieter Idaho side of the Tetons. Targhee National Forest and Grand Teton National Park are close by, and Moose Creek Ranch has a great page full of info for where you can hike, mountain bike, downhill or nordic ski, fly fish, whitewater raft, or go on wildlife tours HERE. You can drive about 15 minutes north to the darling little town of Driggs, or head over the Teton Pass for 20/30 minutes to Wilson/ Jackson, Wyoming. No matter where you go in the area, the sights and wildlife are breathtaking, and it’s a trip that won’t easily be forgotten.
